Project Title: Fountain Square Plaza – mural & utility box design & production
Deadline for Submissions: May 8, 2019
Project Specifics
The Greater Virginia Avenue Corridor (GVAC) Economic Improvement District (EID) seeks an artist to design and produce a mural for the Fountain Square Plaza canopy, located at 1104 Shelby Street. Unveiled in 2012, the plaza serves as a public gathering space for live music, community events, residents and visitors. Located in the heart of Fountain Square, at the intersections of Virginia Avenue, Shelby and Prospect Streets, the plaza is visible to thousands of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists daily.
The GVAC EID is excited about the opportunity to work with a local artist to visually enhance the space and reduce graffiti to plaza amenities. There is no required theme, however, the GVAC EID is especially interested in designs that highlight the area’s thriving culture and community and is appropriate for all audiences.
The project will be to design and produce a mural for two east side canopy panels, steel columns (Exhibit A) and utility box (Exhibit B).
Exhibit A:
There are four panels, each panel is 7’ high and 4’ in width. Painting the steel columns is also included in the project specifications.

*Utility box dimensions are 30” width, 29” height with depth of 15”
